Event Description:
Brownells, Grinnell Area Mental Health Consortium and Grinnell Police Department are partnering to host a FREE training session on PTSD, Trauam and Suicide Prevention for area first responders and mental health liasons. This session will be Thursday, February 22 from 8 AM - Noon at Brownells. If you're interested in attending or want to learn more, eamil Shannon Watts at swatts@grinnellpd.com by February 19th.
Training presentor is Timothy Whitcomb, Sheriff for the Cataraugus County Sheriff's Office in western New York. Sheriff Whitcomb is currently serving his 33rd year in law enforcement, in which he spent 7 years working major crims in the Criminal Investigation Bureau. it was in this role that he was recognized as the Blue and Gold Officer of the Year in October 2000. He has a Master's degree in Counseling Education from Saint Bonaventure University and is a certified police instructor in the areas of interview and interrogation, investigation of sex crimes and law enforcement response to school violence. Sheriff Whitcomb is a graduate of the 206th Session of the FBI's National Academy and is currently active nationwide as a speaking specialist on post-traumatic stress disorder. Sheriff Whitcomb has been an adjunct professor for both Saint Bonaventure University and Jamestown Community College. He has served as President of the New York State Sheriff's Association and as President of the State of New York Police Juvenile Officers Association.
