Janelle Molony Presents "Tales from the Trails: Surviving the Platte River Raids" at Drake Community Library

 

Drake Community Library is honored to host award-winning author and historian Janelle Molony for a presentation titled "Surviving the Platte River Raids." This  event will take place on Sunday, September 22nd, from 2 to 3pm, in the Community Room, offering an exploration of a pivotal moment in American history.

 

The Platte River raids of July 1864 impacted over 370 families, leaving an indelible mark on the annals of the United States, Plains Indian, and literary histories. Through meticulous research and firsthand accounts gathered from nearly 70 survivors—validated by their living descendants—Janelle Molony has meticulously crafted a cohesive narrative that vividly chronicles the harrowing events.

 

"Janelle Molony's work is a testament to her dedication and expertise in bringing to light the untold stories of resilience and survival," said Karen Neal, Director of Drake Community Library. "Her presentation promises to unveil the significance of the Platte River raids, shedding light on historical figures like John Brown, Daniel Boone, Johnny Ringo, and Wyatt Earp, whose lives were forever changed by these events."

 

The presentation will delve into why the Platte River raids hold such profound historical significance, weaving together narratives that have been absent from mainstream historical discourse for nearly two centuries.

 

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with Janelle Molony during a Q&A session following the presentation, gaining deeper insights into the research and storytelling process.
