Event Description:
A Brief History of Disability & Employment in the U.S.: Understanding Persistent Disparities
Autumn Wilke Associate Chief Diversity Officer for Disability Resources at Grinnell College will be the presenter. In 2024, disabled employment reached a record high, yet major disparities persist, particularly for disabled women and people of color. The unemployment rate for people with disabilities remains twice that of non-disabled individuals, and they earn just 66 cents for every dollar earned by their non-disabled counterparts. This talk explores the legal and social advancements in disability employment over the 20th and 21st centuries and highlights the ongoing challenges disabled individuals face in the workforce.
October 16 at 10AM at the Drake Community Library, no registration needed.
