POSITION SUMMARY

 Are you interested in residential housing in higher ed? Do you have a passion for engaging students and problem solving? Grinnell College is looking for you. The Assistant Director of Housing Operations provides departmental leadership for all housing operations within Residence Life, including but not limited to room/roommate assignments, housing selection, release from the residency requirement, break and summer housing, early arrivals, and opening/closing of the residence halls. The Assistant Director serves as the departmental liaison to Facilities Management, Campus Safety, Disability Resources, and Conference Operations and Events. This position also serves as the project manager for the housing database, StarRez. Co-supervises an Administrative Assistant with the Dean of Students
 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Provide leadership for all housing operations, which would include room/roommate assignments, housing selection/releases, break/summer, early arrivals and more
  • Collaboration with cross campus departments to facilitate housing concerns
  • Oversee departmental use of the housing database
  • Represent the department at various meetings and committee assignments 
  • Supervise in partnership with the Dean of Students, the Administrative Assistant assigned to Residence Life
  • Work closely with a diverse student population

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university
  • Three years or more experience 
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Able to communicate effectively and tactfully across all levels of constituencies
  • Works effectively within a diverse community
  • Independently organizes and manages workloads in an efficient manner
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations
  • Champions Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Masters Degree in higher education, counseling, social work, or related field.
  • Background in Residence Life
  • Familiarity with housing database systems (e.g. StarRez, Adirondack)
