 Overview

The primary role of the Clinic LPN is to work directly with the patient, assist the physician with trained medically technical services and provide an outstanding experience for patients of UnityPoint Health - Grinnell. This position will serve as a backup for the Orthopedic Clinic’s Athletic Trainer/Orthopedic Technician. This position will work as the primary support staff in the event there is an illness or vacation within the clinic. The clinic LPN will also support the Athletic Train/Orthopedic Technician on high patient volume clinic days in order to ensure clinic flow is not interrupted.

Responsibilities

Key Accountability

• Greet patients upon arrival, check them in, and verify or update patient information

• Update patient information in the EMR system including health history, current medical information, medications, allergies

• Prepare injections for physician to use in clinic using the provider recipe

• Prepare patients for physician examination

• Assist staff, Physician, Athletic Trainer/Orthopedic Technician, PA, with in office procedures such as preparation and set up

• Communicate information such as testing, procedures, etc. to the patient and family

• Organize and maintain exam rooms

• Change wound dressings

• Apply and remove casts as instructed by an authorized provider

• Assist patients onto exam tables and with other medical equipment

• Remove sutures and/or staples

• Prepare electronic health record notes for follow up patients

• Record new patient data in the EMR

• Respond to patient phone calls

• Complete FMLA, Short Term Disability and Work Status Forms

• Venipunctures if within the scope of practice

• Adhere to organizational policies with attention to standards of conduct and to confidentiality as it relates to HIPAA.

• Possible project work or routine cleaning

• Other duties assigned as needed.

Requirements

 Qualifications

Education:

• Graduate of an accredited program for Licensed Practical Nurses.
Experience:

• Computer data entry experience.

• Experience in an Orthopedic clinic setting preferred.

• Previous clinical experience in a medical office preferred.
License(s)/Certification(s):

• Current license to practice nursing in the state of Iowa for Licensed Practical Nurse.

• Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

• BLS and Mandatory Reporter certification within first 90 days.
